The Main Street entrance is marked
by a marquee and large bronze mullioned window. State Street frontage
has similar entry and both are flanked by display windows. Three story
limestone base is decorated with cartouches and masks above the portals.
The side facade divides into two brick towers flanking a recessed
facade.
From its opening in 1931 until the mid-1960's, the
Mayflower was rated as Akron's best hotel. The 16 story structure
contained 450 guest rooms. It hosted most of the city's major social
events. Its ballroom, decorated with a combination of Modern and Louis
XV motifs, was one of the most elegant rooms ever created in Akron.
