The Akron home of
abolitionist John Brown stands at Copley and Diagonal
roads in West Akron. Brown moved here in 1844 and worked
with Simon Perkins, Jr. in the wool trade. The Perkins'
family mansion still stands across the street from Brown's
home. The famous abolitionist moved on to win fame in
Kansas and at Harper's Ferry. He is now recognized by a
permanent exhibit showing his significance as a symbolic
hero and martyr of the anti-slavery movement.
