Y.W.C.A. Discuss Plans
For Future
New
Building, Activities and Interest to 25th Anniversary Banquet
Speakers at the 25th anniversary
banquet of the local Y.W.C.A. held at Masonic temple Tuesday
outlined plans for new buildings and new activities. "The YWCA
has for years been handicapped by lack of equipment, crowded
club rooms, tiny class rooms and unventilated locker and shower
rooms." said the report of Mrs. W.S. Voris and Mrs. B.F.
Andrews.
"With a site for a new building at
S. High and E. Bowery Sts. and a dormitory site on S. Union St.
we stand on the threshold of new possibilities."
Columbus Man
Speaks
Dr. M.H. Lichter, pastor of the First Congregational church at
Columbus made the principal address, Mrs. George W. Crouse
presided.
Reports for the year ending Sept. 1
showed that 13, 239 girls and women were served during the year,
and 278,893 meals were served. Membership has grown from the 274
of 1901 to 2,377 and the association supports 33 clubs.

New Y.W.
Building Plans
Plans for the new Y.W.C.A.
building were approved Nov. 15 and bids for the erection of the
new structure are in order. It is believed will be one of
Akron’s fine Christmas gifts a year from now.
Though originally it was
intended that two buildings should be erected, one for downtown
activities and another for housing purposes, it has been decided
that one structure may better take care of all needs. The
convenient yet agreeable location of the one large building,
which will be at High and Bowery (formally Quarry) streets,
lends itself nicely to this plan.
The building will be 10
stories in height with a frontage of 143 feet on High and 100
feet on Bowery Street.
There will be an auditorium
and balcony capable of seating 500 persons. The regulation
swimming pool will be 25x60. Other accommodations will include a
cafeteria and coffee shop reached by way of the Bowery Street
entrance and elevators, or by the High Street main entrance.
